Reg Calvert Murder Case 1966. Dorothy Calvert, widow of Reg Calvert, pictured arriving at Assize Court in Chelmsford Essex 20th July 196.It was alleged that Mr Calvert was shot and killed at the home of Major Oliver Smedley in Wendens Ambo near Saffron Walden (21st June).Reg Calvert was head of rival pirate radio station Radio City & manager of The Fortunes pop group. Major Oliver Smedley was acquitted of murder on the grounds of self defence.
