Dorothy Calvert widow of Reg Calvert, arriving at home of pirate radio station Radio City at Shivering Sands Fort in the Thames Estuary 15th February 1967.Possibly for the last time, as she was recently fined ??100 for broadcating illegally & may have to shut down the broadcasting station. *** Local Caption *** Reg Calvert Murder Case 1966. It was alleged that her husband Mr Calvert was shot and killed at the home of Major Oliver Smedley in Wendens Ambo near Saffron Walden (21st June 1966). Reg Calvert was head of rival pirate radio station Radio City & manager of The Fortunes pop group. Major Oliver Smedley was acquitted of murder on the grounds of self defence.
