Avro Lancaster, Barnes Wallis, Rhur Valley, Germany, Reculver
A specially adapted Avro Lancaster seen here carrying out a live testing of a Barnes Wallis Upkeep bouncing bomb off the coast at Reculver, Kent circa May 1943. Shortly after, the test bombers from 617 squadron of the RAF took part in Operation Chastise, the attack against the dams of the Rhur Valley in Germany in which the Mohne and Edersee dams were breached.
