The 1987 Great Storm occurred on the night of 15 - 16th October 1987. An unusually strong weather system caused winds to hit much of southern England and northern France. It was the worst storm to hit England since the Great Storm of 1703. Damage was estimated at UK 7.3 billion (Pounds); France 23 billion (Francs).Pictured: Sealink Ferry Hengist, beached at the Warren Folkestone, with its hull hurled against a concrete apron.
