Violence broke out as thousands of angry demonstrators marched through London to protest against the police handling of the investigation into a fire in Deptford in which 13 black people died. The march to Hyde Park set out peacefully from New Cross but turned violent after a 200 strong breakaway group attacked shops, wrecked cars and punched passers by.Picture shows: Police making an arrest in Blackfriars Bridge Road.2nd March 1981.
