Welsh Mining Memorial
14/10/13. The original pit hooter is sounded at 8.10am on the former site of the Universal pit in Senghenydd, Aber Valley, Caerphilly, South Wales. The hooter was blown to mark the exact moment 100 years ago that an explosion 2000 ft underground ripped through the mine claiming the lives of over 420 miners. Pic: Rowan Griffiths.14th October 2013
