Dr Richard Beeching, Chairman of British Railways, at Rail Plan Conference, where he presented his report entitled, The Reshaping of British Railways", pictured 27th March 1963. The report, commonly referred to as "The Beeching Report", led to far- reaching changes in the railway network, popularly known as the Beeching Axe. "
