Mr Jim Davison, Co-operative Wholesale Society, Team Valley Estate, foreman, Newcastle
Millions of waxed cartons went up in flames in a spectacular blaze in Newcastle. The fire ripped through the Co-operative Wholesale Society warehouse in Ford Street, Byker. 45 firemen tackled the blaze with the help of breathing apparatus, two hydraulic platforms and a turntable ladder. The one man at working in the building, warehouse foreman Mr Jim Davison, sounded the alarm when the fire broke out at 3.30pm, he escaped unhurt but shocked. The waxed cartons belonged to the Bowaters company of the Team Valley Estate. They were mainly for milk supplies. 16th October, 1974
