Coventry, Norman Dewis, Coventry, Jaguar E-Types, Geneva
A convoy of Coventry-built Jaguar E-Types is marking the car's 50th birthday by reliving a European triumph. The gleaming line-up of 48 big cats set off yesterday from Coventry's Transport Museumbound for the Geneva Motor Show. The drivers have volunteered to drive in the tracks of a legendary Coventry test driver from yesteryear but not at his whiteknuckle speed.Their journey is inspired by test and development engineer Norman Dewis, who 50 yearsago was instructed to prepare his demonstration E-type for an overnight drive to Geneva. This journey took Norman just 14 hours to get from Coventry to Geneva.Almost 100 drivers and passengers will mark his achievement at the E-Type???s birthday by showing their classic models at the show.Drivers will be stopping at Castle Coombe and Goodwood before catching a ferry to France, where there will be a champagne reception, and later driving across to Switzerland. 28th February 2011
