Crowds besieged Binn's department store when disc-jockey and television star Noel Edmonds came to Newcastle. Between signing copies of the second Multi-Coloured Swap Shop book, Noel said he was glad to be back in the North East but wouldn't have much time for sight-seeing. After meeting his fans in the city centre shop he was presenting a disco at a nightclub and was then due in Sunderland. He never tired of signing autographs saying, I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it," When asked which aspect of his busy broadcasting life he enjoyed best of all he replied, "I like working on my farm at home best of all." 7th November, 1979"
