De Havilland D.H.84 Dragon, Shetland Islands, Hillman Airways, D. H. Gipsy Major, Shetland
1932 De Havilland D.H.84 Dragon fitted with two 130hp D. H. Gipsy Major engines was conceived as a twin-engine equivalent of the Fox Moth. This six passenger aircraft was ordered by Hillman Airways to be used on their service to Paris. One hundred and fifteen were built in Britain, with a further 87 built in Australia, and were used extensively by the airlines of the 1930s. This one is pictured on a survey flight over the Shetland Islands in June 1933; a few survive today.Sumbergh Head Lighthouse, Shetland. June 1933
