Gordon Payne looks ready to rape, fire and pillage as he lands with other Norsemen on the North-East coast. He towers over spectators at the Seaton Sluice Boating Association carnival before sailing through the harbour in its pirate boat pageant on 7th August 1976. But why is Gordon, the Viking with the crumpled horns, wearing a watch? Maybe they worried about opening time even in thos days . . . .
