Humber Bridge, north tower, Two 140-ton
Men leapt for their lives owhen part of the new Humber Bridge collapsed. Three workers were injured but, amazingly, no-one was killed. Two 140-ton road sections of the massive bridge broke loose as the gantry hauling them up into position for welding twisted, tilted and fell from its track and the sections were left dangling at crazy angles, held only be steel hawkers. An aerial view of the Humber Bridge and the two road sections hanging near the north tower. March 1980
