Beagle dogs used for smoking tests at Dog Toxicity Unit, Alderley Park, Cheshire, 1975. The dogs are forced to smoke up to 30 cigarettes a day to help in tests for a new, safer cigarette for humans. The animals are smoking variants of ordinary tobacco and NSM ??? a cellulose based New Smoking Material which ICI and the Imperial Tobacco Company hope to use in cigarettes.
