Thirteen people were injured and hundreds more wer led to safety from a bridge over the River Tyne on 30th November 1988 following a collision between two Inter-City 125 trains. The accident happened on the north approach to the King Edwar Bridge 100 feet above the river as one train prepared to enter Newcastle Central Station and the other was pulling out.
