Lofthouse Colliery, Yorkahire, forty hours, 750-ft
Race against time to save Entombed Miners: A desperate battle against time was being fought on Wednesday night (21-3-73) by rescue workers trying to free seven miners entombed 750-ft underground. It was estimated that at best the seven, if they are still alive, have only enough air to last for forty hours. This means that the rescuers, battling against a raging flood in Yorkahire's Lofthouse Colliery, have until 6 pm on Thursday to save the miners. March 1973 P004431
