Fokker F.VIIA G-EBTS The Spider - 1929 - was the old Princess Xenia having been renamed after being bought by Mary, Duchess of Bedford. She called it The Spider after the legend, which inspired Robert Bruce ??? to try, try and try again. Flown by Flt. Lt. Charles Barnard, with Robert F Little as co-pilot and navigator they, along with the Duchess, set off from Lympne in Kent on 2 August and arrived back in Croydon on the 9 August; the last leg from Sofia taking thirteen and a quarter hours. This proved that a flight to India and back could be done in eight days. Mary du CaurroyDuchess of Bedford P001018 *** Local Caption *** 4science - Academic / Education - 25/02/2010
