Mrs. Shutt, Boer, Raymond, Mr. Martin
Grandmother and grandson. Circa 1938.Mrs. Shutt, 69, is one of Mr. Martin's out-workers. He employs twelve people in the town who work for him in their own homes. Mrs. Shutt has been working on chain mail since she was twelve. During the Boer War she made chain guards, which went round the engines to stop the sparks from flying up. Mrs. Shutt has a table in her kitchen on which all her work is arrayed, and she gets on with the job whenever she has a spare minute. Photographed with Mrs. Shutt is her grandson, Raymond. P010018
