The oil tanker Atlantic Duchess explodes while in Swansea Docks. February 1951Five bodies are recovered from wreckage of the empty 12,000 ton tanker Atlantic Duchess, which was gutted by a double explosion and fire. Seven men, including the captain and a relief captain are in Swansea General Hospital and a further 24 survivors are at the Sailors Home. Tug keeps a continuous stream of water playing on side of ship to keep it cool while firemen struggle through wreckage looking for missing men.3/2/1951Photo Arthur SideyB557
