MUSIC mogul and train enthusiast Pete Waterman relived childhood memories at the official opening of a newlook Warwickshire train station. The former Pop Idol judge was a teenage trainspotter at the station and is now chairman of the Friends of Leamington Spa Station. The group arranged the installation of a black clock in the new booking hall which is part of a ??760,000 transformation.Improvements to the Grade II listed art deco building include new flooring, improved drainage, and ticket gates.Coventry-born Pete said: It is a fantastic station. No one would have believed in the 70s that the station would end up looking like this."It was derelict and now there is a train every 10 minutes, there are people queueing to buy tickets and there is freight going through. I have been coming here since 1951 and I loved the station."The revamp was partly funded by ??100,000 from the Railway Heritage Trust.Ian Baxter, of Chiltern Railways, said: "After so much time and effort from everyone concerned, it's wonderful to see this magnificent station restored to its 1930s glory." 23rd May 2008"
