A Coventry Baths season ticket, dating from 1923, has been bought by Brian Woolley at auction. He contacted the Sports Trust and staff are now appealing for reletives of the passes owner to come forward and they will be given free membership to the centre themselves. Brian wouldn't be photographed. Pictured is Marcia Laxton, a membership advisor at the Sports Centre.. When Margaret Cox paid 12 shillings and sixpence for a swimming season ticket she couldn't have imagined it would bring a stroke of luck to someone 90 years later. Now the search is on to find the Coventry woman's relatives to see if the favour can be returned. The historic pass, bought for the equivalent of today's 70-odd pence, gave Margaret daily use of the Central Baths from 1923 to 1924, a time when few people had a bath in their home. The baths were built in 1894 at Priory Street but were destroyed by bombing during The Blitz.Officials for the Coventry Sports Trust are now keen to trace Margaret's descendants so they can find out more about her.In return, the family will be offered a year-long pass to use one of the Trusts three leisure centres.Abi O'Leary, marketing manager for the Coventry Sports Trust, said: The season ticket is an exciting find and we would like to find out more."We would urge Margaret Cox's relatives to come forward, we'd obviously need proof, but we'd love to work with them to discover her story in return for getting them active at one of our leisure centres in the New Year."The old pass was handed in by retired postman Brian Woolley who bought it with a lot at auction. In return the Sports Trust gave the 64-year-old, of Foleshill, a week-long pass to the city centre Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre.Brian enjoyed the week so much, he took out a year's membership for use of the Fairfax Street facilities. The retired postman said: "I thought it would be nice for the sports centre to have the old pass because it's part of its history."They offered me a free week's"
