Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, John Major, Denis
On the 12th June 1987 Margaret Thatcher acheived a hat-trick of successive General Election victories, the first Prime Minister to do so for over a century. On top of this she did it with a considerable majority. She even spoke of winning a fourth term in 1992. Unfortunately for Thatcher she failed to see out her third term and it was her successor John Major who led the Tories to that victory. Our Picture Shows: The Prime Minister, with husband Denis, is returned to No 10 Downing Street for a third time
