A guard stands on duty outside the Russian Embassy in London September 1971.A number of Soviet citizens who work at the embassy were asked to leave (declared 'persona non grata' as the new Tory administration under Edward Heath decided to get tough over concerns on the scale of Soviet intelligence activity in Britain. In total 105 Soviet citizens known or suspected to be involved in intelligence activity were expelled in 1971.
