Somerset Staghounds, Somerset, heather-covered moorland, Minehead, Devon
Hundreds of holiday-makers watched the hunt of the Devon and Somerset Staghounds, which ended in the killing of a fully grown stag on the sun strewn banks of a stream at Horner, near Minehead, Somerset. For nearly three hours red-coated riders chased the stag across heather-covered moorland and through deep thickly wood coombs. With a small boy sitting beside it holding on to the antlers, the dead stag already loaded into a land rover being driven away for butchering and distribution to hunt supporters.
