Spotlighted against the wintry city skyline are members of a team of steeplejacks who are carrying out a survey of the spire and roof of St Mary's Cathedral, in Clayton Street, Newcastle on 20th January 1978. The operation is part of a general survey of the fabric of the building which has been ordered by the parish priest Canon Francis Kearney.
