The habit of celebrating a sporting victory by making an irrelevant row is a strange one. Suppose it "caught on" amongst exponents of "high brow" games such as chess.Damboard university and Chequers university having had their annual chess tournament. The teams hire a private omnibus, and attend a performance of Macbeth where they throw oranges into the witches cauldron, present lady Macbeth with a candle and shout Checkmate when Macbeth is killed."
