Daily Mirror Cartoons Pip Squeak and Wilfred Pip Squeak and Wilfred at the racesOn the 12th May 1919 the Daily Mirror introduced its readers to the adventures of Pip Squeak and Wilfred. Within nine months Pip the dog and squeak the Penguin were joined by a rabbit called Wilfred. The dog, the penguin and the rabbit were to become firm favourites with the Mirror readership. Their fan club The Wilfredian league of Gugnunes gained over 350,000 members within six months of its launch. The trio starred in Panto and made many public appearances. Bertram Lamb wrote the strip with former comic cuts artist Austin Payne bringing the trio to life.
