Queen Elizabeth II arrives in South Wales today, Thursday 26th of April, 2012, as part of her Diamond Jubilee tour of the UK . She is travelling with her husband HRH Duke of Edinburgh. The Royal couple arrived in Aberfan to open Ynysowen Community Primary School. *THE Queen fulfilled a 44-year-old promise to the mother of a child killed in the Aberfan disaster yesterday when she opened a new school in the village. Her visit came on the second day of her Diamond Jubilee tour of Wales, which saw her also pay tribute to Wales??? ???sense of pride??? and ???undimmed optimism???. Hundreds of people turned out to greet Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh as they arrived by helicopter to officially open Ynysowen Community Primary School. The royal couple???s visit was their fourth since the disaster of October 21, 1966, when a colliery spoil heap collapsed on the village, killing 116 children and 28 adults. Dressed in a powder blue coat and tweed dress designed by Angela Kelly, the Queen braved drizzly conditions to greet local dignitaries, including radio presenter Roy Noble, before being led into the main hall of the school to the sound of children playing samba drums. 27th, April, 2012.
